When the proposed power plant became an issue in the last Mayoral election I began studying both sides of the issue. I have gone to the informational meetings at West Bridgewater High and met with Advanced Power and Ed Byers of Stop the Power numerous times. I have decided that building the Power Plant is not in the best interest of the city. One of the problems I have seen is that no study was ever done on the site as to what the 2.5 pm levels were. When talking to Advanced Power about this they stated that they were not required to do a study for their application for the siting board. The Gilmore School had a reading taken recently by the State for an indoor air quality problem that showed the 2.5 levels at 32 microns, this should have raised a red flag as to the air quality of the proposed site for the Power Plant. These levels are just about at the maximum allowable level. The Federal Government has lowered it's maximum allowable level to 30 microns and many states are adopting these levels. As far as I can see the health concerns far outweigh any monetary gains the city will receive from Advanced power. There are many other issues with this plant but the main issue is the health of the citizens of Brockton and I will stand firmly against selling water to Advanced Power when it comes before the City Council. www.stopthepower.net
