The vote we took last week was basically saying to both sides sit at the table and iron this
out like we know they can.
The city needs to get all the union presidents together and get this done.
10 other communities have taken the time to do just that and there is no reason we cannot work with all of our unions as one to work this out with a favorable outcome for both sides.
As far as I am concerned the city should have been talking with the unions and us months ago instead of dumping this in our laps at the last minute.
This vote not only impacts the bottom line but the lives of all of our employees and retirees.
If the unions can not work out this problem with the city and bargain in good faith then the new city council in 2014 can take it up again and pass it, but I am for giving our unions a chance to work it out with the city as they have in the past and I will be voting noTonieis again tonite.
